Terms of use
Using Cape Ummah responsibly.
These terms explain the basis on which readers may use the website, submit material, share our work and interact with community information published by Cape Ummah.
1. Acceptance and scope
By using Cape Ummah, you agree to these terms. They apply to public pages, search, directories, event information, forms, newsletters and material submitted for editorial consideration. If you do not agree, please stop using the site.
2. Editorial information is not professional advice
Articles and guides are published for general information and public-interest discussion. They are not a substitute for medical, legal, financial, religious or other professional advice tailored to your circumstances. Verify important information with an appropriately qualified person or responsible institution.
3. Accuracy, dates and corrections
Cape Ummah aims for accuracy but information can change and errors may occur. Event times, prices, opening hours, transport details, regulations and third-party services should be confirmed directly before you act. Material errors may be reported through the corrections route and will be considered under the corrections policy.
4. Copyright and permitted sharing
Unless a credit states otherwise, Cape Ummah owns or controls the original text, design and site presentation. You may share links and quote short passages with clear attribution for lawful commentary, teaching or discussion. Republishing complete articles, removing credits, scraping the site at scale or using content commercially requires prior written permission.
5. Photographs and third-party material
Photographs, illustrations and other contributed material may carry separate creator credits and licences. Those terms continue to apply. A Cape Ummah page does not grant broader rights to reuse a third party’s work; follow the linked source and licence before copying it.
6. Your submissions
You keep ownership of material you submit. By sending it, you confirm that the information is accurate to the best of your knowledge, that you have the right to share it and that doing so does not unlawfully invade another person’s privacy or intellectual-property rights. You permit Cape Ummah to review, store, verify and contact you about the submission. Publication rights, edits, attribution and payment, if any, must be agreed separately.
7. Prohibited conduct
- Do not submit unlawful, threatening, discriminatory, defamatory or deliberately false material.
- Do not impersonate another person or misrepresent authority to speak for an organisation.
- Do not upload malicious code, probe security, interfere with availability or collect personal information from the site without lawful authority.
- Do not expose children, vulnerable people or private individuals through unnecessary identifying details.
8. Directory, event and advertising information
A listing, event notice, link or advertisement is not an editorial endorsement. Organisers and businesses remain responsible for their claims, services, safety, bookings, refunds and legal obligations. Sponsored content and commercial placements should be identified clearly and do not purchase favourable editorial coverage.
9. External services and availability
Links to external websites are provided for convenience and context. Cape Ummah does not control their content, security or availability. The site may be changed, suspended or unavailable for maintenance, security or operational reasons without guaranteeing uninterrupted access.
10. Responsibility and limitation
To the extent permitted by law, Cape Ummah is not responsible for indirect loss arising solely from reliance on general website information, third-party conduct or temporary unavailability. Nothing in these terms excludes responsibility that cannot lawfully be excluded or limits rights granted by applicable consumer or privacy law.
11. Changes, severability and law
These terms may be updated when the service or legal requirements change. If one provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply. These terms are governed by South African law, subject to any mandatory rights or forum that applicable law provides.
12. Questions
Questions about permission, copyright, submissions or these terms may be sent through the contact form under “General enquiry”.
